Local Farms, Young Farmers

By Sandy Wiener

One of my major interests/activities/projects now involves local food and farms, and young farmers. Sarah and I are supporting them in various ways.

A young friend, Severine vonTscharner Fleming, a few years ago started Greenhorns, an organization of young farmers. Recently Greenhorns published “The New Farmer’s Almanac 2015.”

In the introduction to the Almanac, Severine wrote about the importance of preserving farmland for young farmers. She has started a foundation, The Agrarian Trust, with the Schumacher Foundation (remember “Small Is Beautiful”?).

Here is Severine’s erudite, long and impassioned plea on behalf of young farmers.

Sandy, How to put up comments is now clear, but how does one put up new observations or ideas on the site. Also, how do you keep the Abraham Lincoln’s from adding comments. There won’t be any constrain on anonymous comments since nobody will know who is writing them. Eventually, though, it might be interesting to make it possible for NON anonymous guest comments (guests would be those not in the class of 1959). This comment is also a test to see how quickly it is posted. Griff (Charles Griffith)
