John William Bendler III

Dr. John William Bendler III age 83 passed away on Friday, May 21st at his home in New Berlin. He was born in Waterbury, CT on June 26th, 1937, the only child of John W. Bendler Sr. and Anna R. (Skritulsky) Bendler.

John was a member of All Saints Cathedral in Milwaukee where he served time as treasurer, usher, and many other services. For many years, he had a regular route for Meals on Wheels, enjoying his work and was appreciated as a happy face at the door of his recipients. He also served as a payee for several individuals and was a loyal donor to many organizations to feed the hungry, support the environment, and to assist in other causes.

Dr. Bendler graduated fromTaft Prep school in 1955, Yale University in 1959 with a BS in Math and Physics, and The Johns Hopkins University in 1968 with a PhD in Biophysics and Biochemistry. His Post-Doctoral Fellow in Microbial Genetics was completed at the Univ. of PA, School of Medicine. John and Elaine moved to Wisconsin in 1970 for him to become a microbiologist at the Medical College of WI where he was also a professor for future doctors and nurses from 1971-81. He later taught at several other colleges and highschools as an instructor for physics, math, chemistry, and computer science classes. John also worked as Exec. VP of Operations at Geriatric Pharmaceutical Corp before becoming a self-employed consultant.

John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elaine Margrave Bendler, his children Laurence and Julie, daughter-in-law Debbie, son-in-law Larry, and his grandson Clay. Funeral services were conducted at All Saints Cathedral of Milwaukee on Saturday, the 29th.
