John A. Titus

John Abel Titus, 87, died February 28, 2025 in Leesburg, Virginia, after a long illness. An Albany, New York native, he had lived in northern Virginia for the last eight years.

A graduate of The Albany Academy, Yale University, and Cornell University Law School, he practiced law in Rochester, New York, and retired from the law firm of Woods, Oviatt, Gilman.

In high school, John was an outstanding athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. In 2005, he was inducted into the Albany Academy Athletics Hall of Fame. He was an avid boater, enjoying many hours with friends and family cruising on his trawler Tara.
He served in the United States Navy and retired from the Naval Reserve with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

John was predeceased by his parents, John Raymond Titus and Alice Benoit Titus, and his wife, Patricia. He is survived by his brother, David (Alice) and children, John (Giannina), Peter (Lisa), and Betsy (Edwin) Reeve, Linda (Greg) Smith, and Elaine Oathout. He is also survived by grandchildren Giannina, Christopher, Peter John, Katie, Alli, Austin, Hannah, Eric, and four great-grandchildren.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.
